Time and Dollars Matter — Consistent Results Through PMO Implementation and Innovation

Who
Government Agency
Why
The value of this agency's projects was not being fully realized, and this large state agency often failed to meet its targeted schedules or budgets.
How
After meeting with senior leadership, reviewing current project selection and prioritization, project management and oversight, governance and reporting, and methodologies. It was determined that almost none of the expected processes were in place. Provided several recommendations to guide the rollout of a new PMO structure, processes, and tools.
The comprehensive recommendations and suggested rollout and adoption plan covered best practices around PMO structure, education, training, organizational change management, business case creation, methodology selection, new toolsets (including generative AI), and KPI-based performance measures. Leading by example, the new PMO was implemented through a clear, phased approach that emphasized focused stakeholder management and training, showcased its value through measurable KPIs, and continuously refined processes to stay aligned with organizational goals.
Results
The client has a modernized PMO structure and tools to successfully select, plan, and execute projects, supported by measurable and transparent KPIs to monitor and manage project health and performance.
The on-budget and on-time results were so successful that a PO for an additional year of services was issued.
